iOS 18 Shocks the Tech World: When it comes to Apple you know they take innovation a step further by trying as much as possible to catch up on trending demands in the tech world.
Recently they gave iPhone users a glimpse into the future with the preview of iOS 18 at their annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 2024).
They also released the list of supported devices and it might surprise you to know that the iPhone XR made the cut yet again. Unfortunately, this will be the last update it receives. The list of supported devices is as follows:
The update is expected to make your IOS devices more Android-like as it packs many features from home screen customization to tools that promise to make you more productive.
One such feature expected to be released with IOS 18 is Apple Intelligence, which encompasses a range of generative AI features, an improved Siri, and integration with ChatGPT.
Let’s look at some features and usability of the new Apple Intelligence.
On-Device Processing and Privacy:
At its core, Apple Intelligence leverages on-device processing to keep your data private and secure.
What this means is that the AI features will rely on your device’s processing power to handle complex tasks. Unlike the traditional way where your data and prompts are sent to external servers for processing your device will be able to handle all these prompts on its own.
This means you have the option to use your Apple Intelligence-enabled device even without internet connectivity.
Writing Tools:
The new Apple Intelligence powers new Writing Tools that enhance your writing experience virtually everywhere you write. Whether you are replying to a text message or responding to an email, your Apple Intelligence will be able to assist you with proofreading, summarization, and text writing.
You wouldn’t need to copy and paste your texts in chat GPT or other AI alternatives to get feedback. You can do that directly in each app so far as it has a text box.
The best part is that this works with all other third-party apps.

Focus and Communication:
This is one of the features I am anticipating to use when IOS is finally launched on all devices. Because of Apple Intelligence, you can filter out certain notifications depending on the content. In return, you can focus on your work with minimum to no distractions.
Apple intelligence means business because they even take this a step further. The Smart Replies in IOS mail will help to draft responses with relevant details, making communication more efficient2.
Expressive Images and Genmoji:
Taking emoji customization to the next level, users can now create personalized Genmojis based on descriptions or even photos of friends and family.
Here is a list of interesting things to do with Genmojis:
- Create fun, original images with the Image Playground experience.
- Turn rough sketches into related images using the Image Wand.
- Generate personalized Genmoji based on your preferences2.
Custom Memory Movies:
This is also one of the very cool features that will hit Apple Intelligence when it launches. You could just describe a memory or a short movie to you Apple AI and it will just create a video for you. How cool is that?!
Conclusion
I think we can finally rest the debate of which operating system is better because Apple has definitely turned the tables. IOS will always capitalize on the features that Android takes for granted and make it even better.
Tech reviewers who have already jumped on the beta update of IOS 18 have confirmed that the operating system promises more. The final release which will be out in September this year will launch with the iPhone 16 models.
